India gold coin exhibition opensThursday, 26th January 2006 (5110 views) The smallest gold coin in the world is currently on display in India, along with many other rare coins and currencies.The Nanyadarshini coins and currencies exhibit is currently open in Bangalore, running for four days and featuring rare artefacts from around the world, the Times of India reports. The world's smallest gold coins, minted during the Vijaynagara Empire, are flanked by the globe's largest silver coin, weighing in at an impressive one kilo. Currencies dating back over the past 2,500 years are on display, including coins from the Mogul empire. The first ever gold bank notes are also available for viewing, showing that when it comes to currency, the yellow precious metal is not confined to coins. The exhibition also features more modern pieces, including Lord of the Rings coins and commemorative coins from the Olympic Games. On January 28th a competition will be held to find the numismatist with the best collection. The exhibition has been organised by Karnataka Numismatic Society and Canara Bank and was inaugurated by Devaki Muthukrishnan, Reserve Bank of India regional director.
