Indian jeweller plots expansion

Tuesday, 31st January 2006 (4908 views)

Indian jeweller M P Jewellers has announced plans to expand its network of stores in 2006.

The 61-year-old company is set to open new showrooms in Mumbai and Delhi, a spokesman told the Indian Business Standard.

M P Jewellers was tempted to expand after recently winning the opportunity to handcraft jewellery designs submitted by entrants in a national competition.

In an indication of its pedigree, the jeweller was selected to give physical shape to the 40 best entries submitted in the Auditions 05-06 design competition.

M P Jewellers will use the victory as a platform for its expansion.

The jewellery contest was organised jointly by the World Gold Council and AngloGold Ashanti, in association with Rand Refinery Limited.

A one kilogramme gold bar will be presented to the winner of the grand final – set to take place on March 24th - with runners up receiving gold blocks weighing 250 and 100 grams.

Emerald Jewellers, which is based in the south of India, has also been selected to craft entrees that require machine work.
