The latest trend to hit Palm Beach in Florida is margaritas with real gold flakes.

If you visit the Four Seasons Resort in Miami you'll find the exclusive 'Millionaire's Margarita' cocktails on the menu – for $70.

Made with Don Julio Real tequila, 150-year-old Grand Marnier, freshly squeezed fruit juices and – vitally – 18-carat edible gold shavings, the classy cocktail might not suit everyone's wallets.

But apparently the de rigeur drink is going down well with local high-flyers.

"It's selling very well," a spokeswoman for the resort, Kerry Shorr, told the Palm Beach Community Educator. "It's definitely got bling."

The cocktail is part of a wider trend for food and drink featuring edible gold.

California-based cake company Belgique Truffle Gateau has produced a luxury chocolate cake adorned with edible 23-carat gold flakes.

They can be ordered from website gateau.com where 24 of the classy cakes can be yours for $60.
