More gold phones for India

Tuesday, 18th April 2006 (4156 views)

Luxury mobile phone company Vertu is looking to expand its business further in India.

Currently, affluent consumers with a penchant for designer communication gear can buy Vertu's exclusive handsets – which are available in 18-carat gold – from stores in Delhi ND Mumbai.

But the ambitious company wants to expand its presence in the South Asian nation by penetrating the Bangalore, Calcutta, Chandigarh and Chennai markets.

"We are in a strong position to grow our business in luxury mobile phones in India," said Vertu president Alberto Torres.

Vertu revolutionised luxury mobile phones with the release of the Vertu Signature in 2002. The Signature comes in steel, 18-carat white gold, 18-carat yellow gold or platinum. The company also produces the robust Vertu Ascent, which can withstand being run over by a Porsche.

The luxury devices are manufactured in the UK with top quality materials. Jewelled bearings under each key produce a satisfying click, while a fine leather grip ensures the phone doesn't slip from one's hand while speaking.
