Goldcorp completes feasibility study

Thursday, 20th April 2006 (2682 views)

Goldcorp has announced the completion of the Los Filos and Bermejal feasibility study.

The existing feasibility study for the Los Filos site in southern Mexico has been expanded to include the nearby Bermejal deposit.

It is expected that the project will be completed by the end of this year and that commercial production will begin during the second quarter of 2007. The output next year is expected to be 200,000 ounces of gold, increasing to 350,000 ounces in 2008.

Reserves and resources at the mine total more than five million ounces, while around 70 per cent of the capital for the project having already been spent on access, electric power, water supply and other facilities.

The scheme is to be developed as an open pit-heap leach operation.

Across all its operations, Goldcorp is expecting to produce some two million ounces of gold this year at a cash cost of $125 per ounce.
