Millions of dollars worth of treasures are waiting to be claimed in the US and one of them could belong to you.

The Unclaimed Property Division says it has over $100 million in unclaimed funds, including gold coins and expensive jewellery.

The treasures are a combination of old savings accounts, unclaimed inheritances, unclaimed property and refunds from businesses – all of which have been forgotten by their rightful owners.

In some instances, unclaimed money or property may be subject to a fee or charge, but the state knows the value of the treasure and can tell whether it is worthwhile or not.

People in the US are now being urged to check with the department to see whether or not any of the valuables or money is theirs to call their own.
