The India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) proved a huge success again this month.

The five-day event, which finished on May 8th, attracted over 17,000 global visitors to Mumbai's NSE exhibition facilities.

The event, which was put on by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotions Council of India, featured over 640 exhibitors, with new entries received from such jewellery hot-spots as Italy, France, Switzerland, the US and Thailand.

The enthusiasm of Michael Combs, from the US-based IDI Design Group, was indicative of the excitement that the event produced among the jewellery industry.

"This is my first time at the IIJS," he said.

"I am here from New York, and I am looking for jewellery with an Indian touch. I am interested in importing this jewellery, as Indian designs are very popular and quite a rage back home, especially in yellow gold, which is coming back in a big way."

The show is now in its 23rd year and had a more varied range of events than ever before, including 16 seminars, a golf tournament, a fashion lounge and galleries displaying particularly unique designs.
