Gold the new graduate gift

Friday, 26th May 2006 (4198 views)

Gold jewellery is growing in popularity as a gift for new graduates in the US, according to an internet study.

Data compiled by research firm MVI Marketing illustrated some positive results for gold jewellers, with the precious metal one of the most-sought after.

The market researchers' Jewellery Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC) forum, which conducted its April study in the final week of the month, said seven in ten of the respondents who knew a graduate were planning on buying a gift.

One in five is planning to buy fine jewellery or a watch, with a third opting for yellow gold – the most popular choice.

A further quarter were planning on buying white gold, with the tradition of buying new graduates a gift seemingly taking hold.

The survey canvassed the opinion of 2,772 JCOC panel members.
