European Goldfields has announced that studies on its Skouries project in Greece are on target for completion within the allotted timeframe.

The news comes as Goldfields' subsidiary Hellas Gold said it would retain the services of Aker Kvaerner engineering and Golder Associates, who would contribute to completing feasibility studies at the venture.

The company hopes to have full results available by the end of the year on a range of issues, including the cost of the infrastructure needed at the gold mine site and an environmental impact study of the area.

"The bankable feasibility study is an important milestone for the successful advancement of our Skouries project," said David Reading, European Goldfields' chief executive.

"We are pleased to benefit from their international and local experience and reputation in building similar projects."

Skouries is a gold and copper project near the northern Greek port of Stratoni. It is located on a high plateau 35 kilometres from the settlement in a secluded area far from any immediately habitable land.
