High value gold findings in New Guinea

Friday, 28th July 2006 (2793 views)

New Guinea Gold has reported high value grams per tonne of gold values (g/t Au) at a project in Normanby Island, New Guinea.

The company has employed a programme of resource definition drilling at the island's Imwauma project and holes at the south end of the site have found high value gold in occasional wide intervals.

Early samples up to 20m depth had registered only narrow intervals of low grade gold. The latest results start at values of 13.68g/t Au at 39.80m and range to 106 g/t Au at 123.2m. They indicate that a zone of mineralisation, increasing in gold value and width as it deepens, is present.

Findings from other parts of the site indicate that high grade mineralisation could occur to a depth of 250m in the structure. Further drilling holes have been established to explore areas where initial drilling has exposed high value gold and the ensuing results are expected in late August.

Work at the Mount Penck mine is also reportedly going at a good rate, after initial delays caused by heavy rain. Results from primary drills are currently being processed.

Progress at the Sinivit mine is proceeding satisfactorily, according to the company. The project is still in the early stages of development, although all machinery is now either already at the site or in transit.
