Tuesday, 22nd August 2006 (3125 views) The US state of Pennsylvania has come up with a novel way of raising additional budget revenue – auctioning off any surplus items taken from various state agencies. The state government is hosting an auction to get rid of what it claims is "everything from diamonds to dump trucks", which includes such items as a stainless steel and 18-carat gold Rolex watch valued at around $3,500. Items up for auction are from a variety of sources. Some is equipment no longer needed by the various departments of the Pennsylvania state or local government bodies, such as laptops or mobile phones. Other more outlandish items include possessions that have been seized as part of a drug bust when it can be proved they were bought with money from a drug transaction or used in exchange for illegal substances. The auction is scheduled for August 28th to 31st at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex near Harrisburg.
