San Gold has announced that it has poured its first gold bars from its newly-opened mine.

The Rice Lake gold mine is situated in Bissett, Manitoba and the first gold bars were poured at there. The statement represents the final stage in the company's move towards being a self-sustaining gold mining operation.

Canada's newest gold producing mine is also the only fully operational gold project in Manitoba. The opening ceremony was marked by the pouring of two gold dore bars in public. These bars were later made available for public viewing. A royal Canadian mounted police escort was present for these sessions. Employees, government officials and shareholders were all well represented at the ceremony.

In the area surrounding the site, San Gold has opened a mill, two new gold mines and discovered two mineralisations in recent years. The company has now trained 200, mainly local, recruits and the company's worth has grown from $2 million to $200 million.

Under previous ownership, the mine produced 1.36 million ounces of gold over 36 years spanning from 1932 to 1968.
