Burj Al Arab hotel voted world's bestWednesday, 27th September 2006 (2394 views) The Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai has been given the reward with the World's Leading Hotel prize at this year's World Travel Awards.As the emirates' leading tourist attraction due to its distinctive sail-like shape and stunning interior, the 321-metre high building has a myriad of unique qualities. The building lights up the city skyline at night and is surrounded by water and fire sculptures. All the gold furnishings inside, including almost the entire lobby area, are made with genuine 22-carat gold leaf. Each suite comes complete with its own dining and living area, a laptop with internet connection, button-controlled lighting and air conditioning, a 42-inch plasma screen with video on demand and a pillow menu with a choice of 13 different pillows and quilts. Its eight restaurants include the Al Mahara, which is an underwater-themed eatery accessed by a three-minute virtual submarine voyage and features an oval aquarium inside. A room at the Burj Al Arab can cost upwards of £1,000 a night. The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 and are voted for by travel professionals across the world.
