La Currita mine to be expanded

Tuesday, 24th October 2006 (2398 views)

Raven Gold and Tara Gold Resources are to embark on expansion plans at the La Currita mine at Temoris in Chihuahua, Mexico.

The aim is to raise the production at the mine to 300 tonnes per day, as once production reaches a level of 8,000 tonnes per month Raven Gold will have the option of owning 60 per cent the La Currita mine, should it also invest $4,000,000 (£2,138,000).

If plans reach fruition then mining operations will start in December 2006 and "significant revenue" will be generated at the mine early in 2007.

There are four mines at the La Currita property and production took place there steadily until 1998. A grade of 2.59 grams per tonne of gold was discovered when exploration work took place in 1998.

According to Raven Gold's website, less than half the strike length at the La Currita property has been extensively explored, raising the possibility of improved gold grades in the region.

An increased number of staff are now present at the mine to cope with the extra work taking place. Preliminary engineering, metallurgical and topography tests are still awaiting completion.
