Amarillo has declared its intention to begin drilling work at its Lavras do Sul gold project in Brazil within the next 24 hours following the arrival of the diamond drill rig at the site.

Phase one exploration work at the property is due to be finished by the first quarter of next year with the drill assay results predicted to be announced in January 2007.

The initial exploration programme will involve resource definition drilling, soil sampling that utilises closely spaced grids, geological mapping of the local area as well as BLEG sampling that will encompass the whole property.

A total of 22 drill holes will be made at both the Cerrito and Butia mineralized zones and these zones have previously seen gold mineralisation following drilling work undertaken by Rio Tinto and Cia Brasileira de Cobre.

Allied to the drilling, Amarillo has reported that a formal option agreement has been executed with both Rio Tinto and Cia Braileira de Cobre as well as Maria Vidal de Souza and family over Lavras do Sul.

As well as the Lavras do Sul property, Amarillo is focusing on exploration work at its Mara Rosa project, also located in Brazil.
