Drilling work at Sunridge Gold's Kodadu prospect which is located on the Asmara project in Eritrea has begun, the mining company has announced.

Assay results from the site have shown that there is "strong local [mineralisation]" in the area with a range of anomalous to high grade gold findings.

The Kodadu property has been found to be the largest 'gossan' - surface expression of volcanogenic-massive-sulphide - occurrence within the Asmara project and sampling work has shown the area to contain geochemical anomalies on a three-kilometre trend.

Regional sampling has covered an area of some 85 square kilometres and Sunridge Gold has announced that the gossan occurrence is where the premier gold grades were discovered with eight separate samples yielding gold that was in excess of ten grams per tonne.

The three highest gold grades found following the regional sampling programme were 84.20, 39.81 and 27.32 grams per tonne.

Sunridge Gold's Asmara Project consists of the Adi Nefas, Medrizien and Debarwa project licenses and the company has currently drilled more than 23,000 metres at the project.
