Mercator Gold, an AIM-listed exploration company focusing on Western Australia, says its latest drilling work at a site in the Murchison province confirms significant potential for a gold resource improvement.

The Prohibition gold mine is currently undergoing refurbishment and mining studies, both of which are progressing according to plan, with resource increases and improved quality of resource expected.

The company has described these results as "very exciting" because drilling across confirmed width while drilling down validated strong and consistent grades.

Mercator's Surprise site also shows grade potential and reverse circulation drilling has been completed and confirms zones of high-grade gold.

The firm owns many mines situated on the Meekatharra belt which extends some 200 km and has been extensively explored.

Reedy mine is found along this belt and has reportedly produced 650,000 ounces of gold while other mines like Bluebird, Aladdin and Paddy's Flat are all equally promising according to the firm.

Mercator also has other properties in New Zealand while joint venture gold mining projects are also being sought.
