African Gold Group has restarted its surface exploration programme at the Assuowunu property in Ghana, the mining company has stated.

Part of the Asankrangwa gold belt, the Assuowunu concession is one of four sites in this location operated by African Gold Group, along with Twedee, Moseaso and Manso Nkwanta.

The exploration programme will involve 66.9 kilometres of line cutting and 2,000 metres of trenching amid a total area for survey that is 20.8 square kilometres.

There is a rich tradition of gold mining in this region with Bonte Gold Mines producing around half a million ounces of alluvial gold near to the Assuowunu property between 1992 and 2002.

Resolute Resources also operated in the area and produced an estimated 30 million tonnes of ore to the south of the Manso Nkwanta concession at a grade of two grams per tonne of gold.

Ghana is the second largest producer of gold in Africa and African Gold Group has interests in Mali in addition to its Ghanaian concessions.
