Thursday, 30th November 2006 (3261 views) Barrick Gold, an extremely prevalent Canadian gold mining company, has hit the one million ounce milestone at one of its Peruvian mines. The Lagunas Norte gold mine was completed in July 2005 well ahead of budget and is now amongst some of the most exceptional gold mines in that it has reached a million ounces. Greg Wilkins, chief executive office and president at Barrick, said: "There are not many gold mines in the world with the capability to produce over one million ounces in a year. "Lagunas Norte has been an unqualified success story for Barrick, highlighting our exploration expertise, along with our ability to construct large-scale projects ahead of schedule and within budget." Not only successful in golden terms, Laguna Norte has excelled in safety this year with only a tiny fraction of total hours worked being dented by injury. The mine is just one of four new mines opened by Barrick since April 2005 and it employs 4,000 talented Peruvian workers.
