Northern Star Mining Corporation, a Canadian firm, has announced its most recent assay results and its discovery of new gold zones.

The company's Midway project is located in Quebec and is just 16 km west of Val d'Or and it has just taken the record for the deepest drill hole attempt, clocking up approximately 8,000 ft in depth.

Exploring gold mineralisation on an area called the Cadillac Break, which is in fact a tectonic plate, was the hole's remit and the project was a success with five new zones of gold found.

The company is "excited" by the initial results because they confirm the potential of Midway which has in the past been the site of another mine called Malartic Goldfields. This mine produced over two million ounces of gold during the boom years of the 1930s.

Exploration to date covers only ten per cent of the entire property owned by Northern Star so the firm is keen to drill underground, providing it is cost-effective.
