An anonymous prospector has hit the jackpot with a 110-ounce gold nugget find near Maryborough in central Victoria, Australia.

After discovering the nugget worth an estimated $90,000 (£36,000), the prospector took his find to the Coil-tech Gold Centre in Maryborough and Andrew Gladdis, an employee at the centre, said that the man refused to share any information relating to the source of the gold.

Nuggets have been found on occasions before in the Maryborough region as a legacy of the gold rush days back in the 1850s. One such case was in February 2005 where an interstate prospector found a nugget weighing two kilograms.

Mr Gladdis told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: "He hasn't told us exactly where he found it, can't blame him, you would want to make sure there was not more sitting there just like it."

"[I'm] pretty sure, 90 per cent sure it was found on Crown land, not on private property or anything like that, but it was found at a depth of three feet," he continued.
