Gateway finds gold in Nevada

Friday, 19th January 2007 (2349 views)

Gateway Gold Corporation has just announced the discovery of a large system of gold mineralisation at its north-eastern Nevada property.

Known as the Golden Dome property, it has just had eleven drill holes completed in 2006 and these managed to intersect significant intervals of gold as well as the trace elements generally associated with gold deposits.

Michael McInnis, president of Gateway Gold, said: "The gold bearing system inferred from gold encountered in drill holes outlines a minimum area measuring 5,500 feet by 4,300 feet."

He added that this area is prospective for the discovery of Carlin-style gold deposits particularly at the point where the gold-bearing structures intersect the lower plate rocks.

Golden Dome lies equidistant between the firm's Big Springs project and the Jerritt Canyon mines and back in 2005 initial drill work was undertaken to ascertain that lower plate rocks could exists in the area.

The 2006 programme was designed to follow up on this as well as to complete geophysical and geochemical surveys.

One highlight of drilling was a 20 foot stretch with a grade of 2.75 grams of gold per tonne including five feet with a grade of 4.43 grams of gold per tonne.
