Strait Gold nestles into Peruvian gold countryThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Monday, 22nd January 2007 (3178 views) Strait Gold Corporation, a Canadian mineral exploration company, has announced the results of its latest work in central Peru.Surface sampling at the Culebrilla gold and silver property was comprehensive in 2006 and included bedrock mapping, soil sampling and a ground magnetic survey. A grid measuring 2.5 kilometres by 1.5 kilometres covered the area in the hope that new gold zones would be discovered ready for targeting with diamond drills in the second half of 2007. Jim Borland, the president of Strait Gold, said: "These are the final results from our 2006 surface sampling program and confirm the widespread mineralisation at Culebrilla." He added that the data combined with previous studies will determine where drills will be used once the rainy season ends. Across a 140 metre stretch, grades of 1.1 grams of gold per tonne and 28.6 grams of silver per tonne were recorded during 2006. Culebrilla is situated in the Andes Mountains and is very close to one of Barrick's finest mines Pierina. Known as Peru's golden area, Strait Gold say it has consistent values of one to two grams of gold per tonne.
