Tulawaka gold results top 139,000 ounces

Friday, 26th January 2007 (2322 views)

MDN Northern Mining has announced the latest results from its Tulawaka mine in Tanzania which begin production in March 2005.

For the fourth quarter of 2006 the mine produced some 36,944 ounces of gold which contributes to Tulawaka's total gold production at 139,655 ounces.

This is about 12 per cent higher than what was predicted for the year and means that the processing plants put through about 500,181 tonnes of ore at an average grade of 9.18 grams of gold per tonne with a gold recovery rate of 94.7 per cent.

MDN Northern Mining has managed to sell 146,493 ounces of gold to the spot market to make revenue which exceeds its budget, so this difference will be distributed to its joint venture partners.

Some 216 Tanzanians work at the mine and have registered six million man hours without a single time-lost accident so far so its celebration all round for MDN.

Other Tanzanian projects going on at the moment include Isambara which is only 18 kilometres away and Viyonza which even closer to Tulawaka.
