Tuesday, 20th February 2007 (3821 views) An agreement has been reached between La Quinta Resources and the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) regarding a Memorandum of Understanding for the Kampene project.La Quinta signed the understanding with the Association Miniere du Kivu sprl (Amiki) to either lease or acquire both the exploitation and exploration rights to the project, which is situated in South Kivu Province. According to La Quinta, the Kampene site has seen "extensive mineral production" since the 1940s, incorporating gold, silver, cassiterite and coltan. Malcolm Swallow, La Quinta chairman, stated: "We are very excited to be able to move onto the Kampene Project and start work almost immediately on such a prominent past producer of gold and other minerals." Also, Mr Swallow said the company will now focus its attention initially on a group of hills around the alluvial areas as these boast the potential for hard rock production. He went on to state that his company was committed to development and exploration work in the DRC and hailed the infrastructure in Kampene in that it will allow exploration to be "highly focussed".
