Bellhaven finds more gold in copper mine

Thursday, 22nd February 2007 (2339 views)

Bellhaven Copper & Gold has reported new gold results which indicate strongly mineralised areas at the centre of its Cerro Chorcha copper deposit in Panama.

Located in the western highlands of the country, some surface trenches have been dug which have a combined measurement of 218 metres and an average grade of 0.88 grams of gold per tonne.

Julio Benedetti, who is the chief executive officer and president of Bellhaven, said: "These results prove the existence of gold mineralisation in these structures in the core area of the deposit, which in the past had been considered unmineralised."

He added that the first phase of the upcoming drilling programme will test these structures at depth.

The firm is one of Panama's leading gold and copper exploration companies and it owns concessions which come to a total of 500 square kilometres throughout the country.

Cerro Chorcha lies along the historically prevalent Cerro Colorado resource which is famed for its copper and hosts another deposit called Petaquilla which boasts 15 million tonnes of contained copper.
