Semafo, a Toronto listed precious metals miner, has been granted a licence to mine at the Mana gold mine in Burkina Faso.

The country's government issued the mining permit with another big permit, for steel works, awarded to CMA, a Dakar-based contractor which has also built the Samira Hill gold mill in Niger.

Burkina Faso's government said it will award locally for contracts in the areas of concrete, general construction, electrical installations and mechanical installations.

A spokesperson added: "This milestone is a significant achievement for both Burkina Faso and Semafo.

"Burkina Faso will once again become a gold producer as several modern facilities will commence operations over the next twelve months."

Semafo anticipates a work rate of 4,000 tonnes per day with production of 125,000 ounces of gold of year over the first three years.

The firm plans to run the mine for eight years

Burkina Faso is a land-locked country in West Africa whose precious minerals include copper, gold, iron and manganese.
