Exhibition brings Greek gold to lifeTuesday, 20th March 2007 (3415 views) Phoenix Ancient Art has announced that its latest display on Greek golden jewellery will be available to the public in New York from April 19th to May 15th this year. The antique dealers have put together a unique collection of antique gold entitled Greek Gold: Masterpieces of Classical Jewellery which will be installed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Greek and Roman Court. Great braided gold choker necklaces in bold designs and with intriguing embellishments of mythical animals hail from times over 2,000 years ago. Ali Aboutaam, the president of the company, said: "It's becoming increasingly more difficult to find top quality ancient jewellery." She said that the relative accessibility and strong allure of ancient gold to antiquities collectors of all levels have led to a scarcity of truly amazing pieces. Hence this exhibition is the culmination of some 30 years of painstaking research and acquisition "with an eye for only the best and most beautiful pieces". Other pieces featured include a pair of Hellenistic gold earrings with eagles engraved on them and some fine beads which are as small as a grain of sand and entirely made from gold.
