GJEPC to promote jewellery training

Friday, 20th April 2007 (3628 views)

Various training opportunities are to be provided within the jewellery sector in India, thanks to new schemes set up by the country's Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

A total of 15 artisans residing in the Karaikudi district of India have recently benefited from JEPC training initiatives and the focus was placed specifically on close and open setting jewellery.

Indian website Chennaionline.com reports Princeson Jose, regional chairman of GJEPC, as stating that it was the south of the country that is presently leading the way in terms of plain gold jewellery export.

Diamond jewellery is currently the most in-demand type currently being exported from the Karaikudi region of the Asian country followed by plain gold jewellery and that which incorporates gem stones and rough diamonds.

In addition, the Economic Times of India suggests that between now and 2008, the increase in gold jewellery exports out of India could increase by 40 per cent. This is the opinion of GJEPC gold jewellery panel committee convenor Vijay Kapoor.
