Mesquite gold production ahead of schedule

Tuesday, 19th June 2007 (2122 views)

Gold production at Western Goldfields' Mesquite mine has been brought forward to January 2008, it has been announced.

This represents a three-month advance on the original production plan from the gold exploration company.

According to Western Goldfields, the estimated average annual production for the period 2008-15 is 160,000-170,000 ounces of gold.

"This marks an important step in the transformation of Western Goldfields from a developer to a producer - only 22 months after our management team joined the company," commented chairman Randall Oliphant.

He added that the company is able to move forward with its mining and construction plans more rapidly as a result of Western Goldfields entering into a forward sales programme on June 14th.

The company also revealed that three Terex 205-tonne haul trucks have already arrived on the site.
