A recent internet survey has revealed that yellow gold is the number one present for Mother's Day among those who purchase jewellery.

JCK online reports that the survey by Jewellery Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC) revealed that a third of gift buyers presented their mother with yellow gold to mark the event, while white gold was also a popular choice.

The study showed that finance played a factor in gift purchase, with more than 33 per cent of people saying they spend to spending under $100 (£50) on a Mother's Day gift.

"In fact, budget was the primary reason most panellists were not considering or actually buying fine jewellery for [their mother]," commented Elizabeth Chatelain founder of the JCOC.

Ms Chatelain also added that a number of mothers like to receive fine jewellery such as diamonds and gold on Mother's Day, with items such as rings and necklaces being the preferred gift.
