Gold exploration company Shield Mining has been awarded a new permit for gold mining in Mauritania.

The EL365 permit is effective immediately and expires in three year's time - it is also renewable twice, for three years on each occasion.

It covers the strike extension of the 2,000 - metre rock chip and 800 - metre soil anomalies of the Conchita prospect and encompasses 1,446 square kilometres.

"The granting of this licence is important to Shield as we now have additional strike length of the shear zone to explore an area extending the company's exploration footprint up to the border of Western Sahara," Shield Mining's chief executive officer David Netherway said.

Recently, Shield announced the results of the sample testing at the Conchita prospect including gold in soil values which outline a "strong" linear anomaly over a strike length of 800 metres.

Shield Mining is an Africa-focussed gold and base metals explorer listed on the Australian stock exchange.
