A gold producing mine in Mexico has been robbed for the second time, it has been reported.

Sierra Minerals has revealed that the theft at its Sonora mine represents two weeks' worth of production and that an announcement pertaining to additional security provisions at the mine is imminent.

According to Sierra, no staff were injured in the raid - although full details of the event are not yet known, but police are investigating and an internal investigation is also underway.

"The company will make a further announcement in the near future including further steps to enhance security provisions in addition to those recently implemented," Sierra noted in a statement.

In early June this year the first robbery took place in which an armed robber stole three bars of gold - 750 ounces - worth roughly $502,000 (£250,000) from a secured room.

This robbery was also equivalent to about two weeks' worth of production.
