Tuesday, 31st July 2007 (2866 views) In the first quarter of 2007, gold production increased at Avocet Mining's operations, it has been announced.According to Avocet, gold production rose to 45,727 ounces during this period, compared to 44,947 ounces for the same period in 2006. The company reports that this new figure is a total increase of 11 per cent. "We remain focused on further operational efficiencies in an environment of high consumable prices and a strong gold price," commented chief executive officer Jonathan Henry. Gold production from operations at Penjom and North Lanut rose by 11 per cent to 38,802 ounces compared to 34,886 ounces for the same period last year while production from Malaysia-based Penjom amounted to 23,069 ounces for the first quarter compared to 24,613 ounces last year. Meanwhile production of gold from North Lanut in Indonesia also improved, rising to 15,733 ounces for the quarter in comparison with 10,273 ounces last year. In Tajikistan, gold mining retrieval hit 6,925 ounces for the quarter - an increase from the 10,061 ounces reported in 2006.
