Customs officers at Bulgarian border checkpoint Kapitan Andreevo recently busted a smuggling attempt of hundred dollar banknotes and gold items.

According to the Sofia Echo, the money recovered was the profit from the sale of gold jewellery illegally exported from Turkey to western Europe.

"After a careful check of a Volkswagen Vento automobile, the money was taken out from two hiding places behind the back bumper of the car," reported International News Bulgaria.

In addition to the cash, 163 grammes worth of gold items were recovered in the vehicle.

The only detained party so far is the driver of the car with the news agency reporting that it has been claimed he was working with a group which dealt in the gold business.
