The Perth Mint has expressed an interest in the Indian gold coin market, it has been claimed.

According to Reuters, the Australian gold coin manufacturer is looking to make annual sales of two tonnes in India – one of the world's largest consumers of gold – by 2010.

Reuters reports that The Perth Mint is in talks with banks that retail the gold coins.

"Our presence in India is growing and we would like it to grow much more. We haven't sold a great deal yet, but that is exactly why we are here, to find more customers," Ron Currie, sales and marketing director for The Perth Mint was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Last month, The Perth Mint revealed that its Dancing Man coin won in two categories at the Coin of the Year Awards.

The gold coin manufacturer's Dancing Man is available as part of a premium two-coin set including a pure gold version of the coin.
