The Newmont Mining Corporation has announced that it has been invited to join the world component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).

Corporate sustainability on the DJSI World is evaluated by the ability of a company to competently address industry and global issues and by how effective a company manages the risks associated with environmental, economic and social developments.

"Being the only gold company recognised on DJSI World indicates we are making progress and moving in the right direction," said Richard O'Brien, president and chief executive officer of Newmont, who credits the honour to the hard work and dedication of the company's employees.

The company is in the top performing 20 per cent of North America's 600 biggest sustainability companies, earning it a place on the DJSI North America since 2006.

DJSI World evaluates the performance of 2,500 companies on a global scale and is considered to be Dow Jones's premier sustainability index.
