Dubai to launch first collectible gold coin

Tuesday, 18th September 2007 (2761 views)

The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) has announced that its first collectible gold coin will be available for sale from September 27th.

Called Visions of Dubai, the coin will feature the image Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates.

An engraved image of the famous Burj Al Arab luxury hotel will appear on the other side of the gold coin.

"We are confident that Visions of Dubai will prove a popular keepsake among both residents and visitors to the emirate - which is projected to attract in excess of 32 million visitors this year," said Colin Griffith, DMCC's executive director for gold and precious metals.

According to the DMCC, the 22-carat gold coins will be produced locally and will come in four different units.

The coins will be available for purchase individually, or in a presentation pack featuring all four coin sizes.
