In celebration of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China, official worldwide wireless communications sponsor Samsung has literally gone for gold with the development of its latest mobile phone handset.

The Samsung P318+ mobile handset is a special edition of the P310 handset with one striking difference – while the handset of the P310 is made of ordinary brushed metal, the exterior of the yet-to-be-released P318+ model has been upgraded to 18-carat gold.

According to gadget guide website Gizmodo, additional special features on the new gold phone will include Olympic Games-themed ringtones and wallpapers and features a design of the Olympic rings on the back.

The handset will be released as a limited edition model, although the company has not yet said how many units will be released, or how much the P318+ model will cost consumers.

According to the Tech Gadgets blog, for customers looking for Olympic-themed mobile phone products without the anticipated steep price of the P318+ handset, Samsung also plans to unveil three other mobile phones in honour of the summer games.
