The Gold Nugget Museum's Days of Living History weekend festival was cancelled due to rain for the first time in 17 years.

The outdoor events at the festival, which was scheduled to take place in the town of Paradise, California over the weekend of September 22nd-23rd, had to be cancelled shortly after its opening event, the Paradise Post reported.

"Considering the weather, it was very successful," Ray Harrington, the museum's public relations representative, told the newspaper.

Some participants moved indoors after the rain began, but all the outdoor activities, including panning for gold, were cancelled due to safety reasons.

Days of Living History is an annual event hosted by the museum to recreate over 100 years of history in the Paradise Ridge region, particularly celebrating the community's involvement with the early days of California's historic gold rush.

The tiny settlement of Paradise Ridge acted as a passageway for prospectors on their way to gold rush destinations in the mid-19th century.
