Mano River plans for Liberia's first major gold mine

Thursday, 27th September 2007 (1870 views)

Mano River's proposed Liberty Gold project is set to become the first major gold mining operation in Liberia.

In an interview with Exec UK regarding the company's exploration projects in west Africa, Dr Tom Elder, the president and chief executive officer of Mano Gold, explained that the region has remained largely underexplored until recent times.

He said that under the current president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberia is becoming a desirable location for foreign investors.

Mano has made plans to compete an exploratory drilling scheme in the east of the country to evaluate its prospects.

"An unusual combination of factors means that this project is unlikely to present us with any major problems in construction or subsequent operation," Dr Elder told the publication.

"This will become Liberia's first-ever major gold mine."

The company has said that Liberia could have the geological potential to host large primary gold deposits.

Mano River is an exploration company with properties in the West African nations of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
