Old Gold Appeal raises funds for Alzheimer's Society

Friday, 28th September 2007 (3123 views)

The Alzheimer's Society has announced that London jeweller W N Mullings has surpassed the £250,000 mark with funds raised from his Old Gold Appeal.

Each year, Mr Mullings, who has been running the campaign for 15 years, appeals for people to send him their unwanted gold jewellery.

The jewellery is then checked, with all proceeds from the campaign donated directly to the Alzheimer's Society.

Mr Mullings said: "Over the years I have had all manner of things sent to me, from odd cufflinks, to silver costume jewelry, watches and even old gold teeth!

"Some items just have metal value, others more intrinsic value, but each one has helped raise much needed funds for the Alzheimer's Society," he added, explaining that this is the reason that he plans to continue turning old gold into new gold.

Founded in 1979, the Alzheimer's Society works for the rights of people with dementia and their carers.
