New gold zone in Sierra LeoneThursday, 18th October 2007 (2040 views) Reports for an initial set of samples taken from a gold-bearing hard rock formation in Sierra Leone have revealed that they contain gold grades of around 80 grams per tonne, according to Sierra Gold. The company's geological team has retrieved a second set of samples, which will be tested at SGS Laboratories in Canada and it said it intends to make further investigations into the zone, which is estimated to run for several miles in both strike directions. Sierra Gold has announced that it has secured an option to acquire the mining rights to the property. It intends to continue its surface sampling work and hopes begin work on a preliminary drilling programme in the near future. The Nevada-based company holds ownership over the mining rights of Northern Star Resources, including a mining concession in Sierra Leone with an area of 40 square kilometres. A test mining programme is currently a high priority for the company, which hopes to further explore and expand development of gold resources in the region.
