A gold medallion, commemorating the 60th anniversary of India's independence, as well as the country's 150th anniversary of the First War of Independence, was released earlier this month.

The Freedom Gold Medallions, with the theme Priceless Emotions Captured in Gold, were released by India's president Pratibha Devisingh Patil as a tribute to the spirit of the country's people.

One side of the medallion – which has a guarantee of purity from MMTC Limited – features a depiction of Mahatma Ghandi, while the other side has an embossed image of independence celebrations.

"This commemorative medallion which has been produced in limited numbers will be the most sought after souvenir for the patriotic Indian and definitely a priceless possession to be cherished for years to come," said Sanjiv Matra, chairman and managing director of MMTC Limited.

According to newindpress.com India's minister of commerce and industry and the minister of tourism and culture attended the release of the medallion on October 2nd.

Ajay Mitra, managing director of the World Gold Council in India, said that the organisation was "very proud" to associate itself with the launch of the prestigious medallion.
