A geophysical study is now underway at Cardero Resource Corp's Incahuasi gold project, it has emerged.

Located in the mining province of Catamarca, Argentina, the property has been the subject of mining activity since the pre-Hispanic and Jesuit periods.

Mined using modern techniques during the period between 1936 and 1954, reports on quartz veins on the site have indicated high-grade gold values of up to 300 grams per tonne.

According to Cardero, a drilling operation is set to begin on the site early next year, which will cover a distance between 1,500 metres and 2,500 metres.

Targets for the anticipated drill programme will be based on the results of an induced polarisation survey on the site, which began on November 16th and will test the potential for bulk tonnage zones.

Founded in 1999, Cardero is currently working to identify a number of mineral deposits for exploration and potential production in regions of Peru, Argentina and Mexico.
