Irish gold mining has 'good prospects'

Wednesday, 21st November 2007 (1889 views)

A gold mining prospect in Ireland could prove to be lucrative for exploration company Conroy Diamonds and Gold, thanks to a recent discovery made in the country.

Professor Richard Conroy, chairman of the firm, told Mineweb that the company's Clontibret gold discovery in Ireland has good prospects.

He said that an inferred gold resource of 500,000 ounces at shallow depth bodes well for future operations on the site, in addition to being only a 90-minute drive from the capital city.

Professor Conroy added that the discovery covers around 20 per cent of the current target area, with preliminary drilling on the remaining 80 per cent also indicating the presence of gold.

According to the company, exploration operations in the Clontibret region have found gold along 50 kilometres of a 115-kilometre gold trend, with additional soil samples set to be analysed shortly.

Gold mining in Ireland is expected to have a popular following, thanks to the country's folklore and legends of leprechauns and gold, according to exploration company Conroy Diamonds and Gold

In addition to its gold prospects in Ireland, Conroy Diamonds and Gold has also recently acquired areas for gold exploration in the Lapland Greenstone Belt in Finland.
