A man who stole a sculpture of a fish made of pure gold from a Japanese tourist facility in 2006 has been charged, according to the Mainichi Daily News.

The man, 41-year-old O Kil-sing from Kitakyushu, stole the fish - one of two gold sea breams on display - from a tourist facility in the Taio Kinzan service area, which is located in Hita, Oita Prefecture.

It is thought that in addition to the fish, O Kil-sing stole more than 100 precious metal items worth 67 million yen (£298,891) between the afternoon of February 12th and the following morning.

He has also been charged with stealing a 100-kilogram gold bar from another tourist facility in March of the same year.

According to showcaves.com, the TaoKinzan was once the largest gold mine in Asia. It has since been converted into an underground museum where visitors can view a model of a gold mine.
