A set of gold armour is to be presented as an offering to Goddess Padmavati in Tirupati, reports the New Indian Express.

The armour, valued at more than $250,000 (£124,000) and named Swarna Vajra Kavacham, is to be given to priests to deliver to the deity.

J Rameshwara Rao, chairman and managing director of the My Home group of construction companies, is the benefactor of the gold garment.

At the scheduled time, he is to hand over the gold armour to Sri Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy who is then to pass it on to priests.

My Home Constructions says it has been building properties to "exceptional quality norms" for two decades.

Also made to high standards recently was an 18-carat gold Christmas tree by Chicago-based Steve Quick Jewellers.

The firm explained that designing the tree took many months, while carving a wax cast for the seven-inch model added a number of weeks to the process.
