Tuesday, 19th February 2008 (5059 views) Ornate gold jewellery based on 16th century designs from the Mughal empire has gone on show in India, according to reports.Express India says the company behind the 400 pieces, Tanishq, has launched the show to coincide with the release of Indian film Jodhaa Akbar, an epic tale of the romance between a Mughal emperor and a Rajput princess, which features the gold jewellery. The site says that 200 of Tanishq's designers worked for two years to create the pieces for the film. They include garlands, amulets and a gem-encrusted sword used by the character of Akbar. There is also a special wedding collection set that features Aad, a traditional gold and diamond necklace with matching amulets and a kamarband. The necklace alone contains five kilos of gold. Customers will soon be able to own their own, 22ct versions of the designs. Tanishq's regional business manager Vipul Sachdeva said: "We are also looking at customising this jewellery on demand to create special pieces for our customers that they can design on their own in consultation with our in-store designers." Jodhaa Akbar was released in India on February 15th.
