Crew Gold reports progress in GuineaTuesday, 19th February 2008 (1788 views) London-based Crew Gold has issued an update on exploration work at its Lefa gold mine in Guinea, east Africa.Mining volumes are ahead of projections, the company said, which should enable the earlier exposure of deep-core high-grade gold. Exploration is also ongoing, with results that Crew said "continue to impress". Drilling at the Firifirini property has been particularly productive having identified a new zone to the north. Intercepts from this zone show high average grades, including five metres of 55.78 g/t gold, 11 metres of 11.05 g/t gold and six metres of 12.83 g/t gold. Since December, 63 holes have been drilled for a total depth of 6,726 metres, it added. Crew's president and chief executive Jan Vestrum said: "Exploration continues to give very encouraging results on both tonnage and grade which are key value drivers for the future." Measured and indicated resources at Lefa are estimated at 4.82 million ounces of gold, with a further 1.3 million ounces in inferred resources.
